I went through a really bad experience that I’m having a hard time forgetting. How can I deal with this hurt always coming into my mind? – GirlNeedsHelp

Cam: Hey Girl! I’m so glad you shared and opened your heart up to us about this horrible hurt. I think I can sort of relate to what you’re talking about because I went through a really bad experience too — the death of my eight-year-old brother that I absolutely loved. I can tell you, there are no easy answers to hard questions, and what you’re deal with seems pretty hard.

God is the only One big enough to deal with this. And He is so compassionate — I really love Psalm 34:17-19, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.” Seek God my friend. It might be hard to believe, but He really is close to the brokenhearted and He’ll help you.

Erin: I hear the cry of your heart; my mother, grammie, sister, and I were all “GirlsNeedHelp” for quite a while after my brother, Hunter, went to heaven. And though it takes time, I can promise from experience that no matter how deep the pain is God’s healing love is deeper.

There are a couple things that have helped me along the way; maybe they’ll help you too. First, you said that you are having a hard time forgetting about this experience and I think that’s because we don’t forget because sometimes we just can’t! Some things we go through in life are so hurtful that they change us and in that way, they’re always with us. So let me encourage you to stop trying to forget, but instead remember whatever it is, God is with you to help you every step of the way.

The other thing that if someone else was involved in whatever this bad experience was, it’s really really important to forgive them. Unforgiveness seems to make us continue to remember the hurt. We need God’s forgiveness, and He is ready and willing to help us. In my own way I had to forgive the Lord for taking Hunter, but He helped me and gave me the power to accept, forgive, and heal. I’ll be praying for you and I hope you stay in touch and let us know how it’s going.
